Service Opportunity

Dear Sisters,

I received this message from Sister Andrews.

...a neighbor of Kathy Cologna is looking for someone in her area who would watch her 29 yr, old handicapped daughter for one hour every afternoon. The neighbor works and would pick the woman up on her way home. The handicapped person goes to "school" everyday, but gets home 1 hour before her Mother. For further information, have anyone interested to contact Kathy.

Let me know if you need Cathy's contact info.
Thanks, Nicole

Our True Identity

Sometimes you find yourself the duck, sometimes you feel like a goose... and according to Apostle Dieter F. Uchtdorf, in whom I trust completely, all of us can be a swan...

All About Auction!

The Service Auction of the Oakwood Ward will take place on
August 12th at 6p.m.
There will be a dinner served and nursery provided for those that absolutely need it.
The auction is a huge opportunity!!

We have requested a very special (very hilarious) auctioneer.
I promise that you will laugh, have a nice dinner with good friends, and go home with a fun little prize. What could be better?
This is an excellent opportunity to invite friends, neighbors or less active Sisters that you visit teach!

How it works:
Bring an item or an idea with you that you are willing to donate (at the end of this post, I will give you some ideas!).
When you arrive, you will be given a questionnaire to fill out. I cannot tell you the nature of the questions as that would be cheating, but for each answer given there will be a points value assigned.
(the math will not be hard, I promise!)
Once you total up your points, you will have the amount of currency that you can "spend".
The auctioneer will hold up each of the items brought, and take bids...
The bidding can be hilariously intense.
When your points are gone... you are done spending! The goal is for everybody to go home with something fun!

what should I bring?:
some of the most popular items are small handmade items or baked goods.
You can also bring an IOU for a service that you are willing to provide.
window cleaning? ironing? FHE treats?
do you have a talent that you are willing to share?
family history research? dance instruction? voice lessons?
The most ferocious bidding that I have ever witnessed was on "free babysitting"!

What has Nicole brought?
I usually bring small items that I have crocheted or homemade soaps.
What has Nicole won?
One year I won an awesome handmade scripture bag.
Another year I won "dinner in a box". It was a wrapped box - inside was a jar of (homemade) canned meat, canned veg, canned fruit and some biscuits. I thought that was a very creative idea!

We would really like this to be the beginning of a great tradition in the Oakwood Ward!
Please email me and let me know how many will be attending (we need to plan dinner!)

Some important info to note!

*The location of the services for Nikki Bangart have been moved. The time is still the same.

Scrapbook Family History

Great news!
We finally have a day for the darling scrapbook craft that Elisha Perkins has put together for us!

In case you have not seen it - it is a very creative little scrapbook that will prompt you to put some family history inside. (There is room inside for pictures and journal-type questions)

This will be a great gift idea or just something to have that can be passed on for generations.

It will be at the church building on
Tuesday, July 27th at 7 pm
.
Elisha has assembled the kits, and the cost of the materials is $6 each.
Please let me know if you would like to do one, but have not signed up!

Thanks so much, Elisha!

Vote

I regret that I have been out of commission and missed a wonderful talk by Brother Durham about being in WWII. My husband came home from the 4th Activity and said that he found the information fascinating, and wished he could hear more.

Then, I also missed a great lesson on Patriotism by Mary Ashton. This is one of my favorite subjects. No doubt it was an awesome lesson.

I received this email message from Sister Mary Fisher:

There is a Primary election coming up on August 24th. It's very easy to register to vote online at azvoterguide.com. Or if you are already registered, you can update your address or make other changes such as party affiliation at this site.

Thanks!

The greatest way to show our patriotism, pride and solidarity is to get out and vote. Please don't miss any opportunity to educate yourself on the subject matter, then vote to be heard.

I am including this clip of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir singing one of my favorite hymns. (it is my ringtone!)

Don't forget.

We will be meeting at Florence Proctor's home on July 22nd. 7pm.
Bring treats to share!

...and ideas for our next selection!
